About:
There was a time when the oceans did not belong to kings or nations, but to runaways, outcasts, sailors with nothing to lose. They spoke different tongues, flew no single flag, followed no law but their own. The world called them pirates. They called themselves free.
For a brief, brutal moment in history, they ruled the sea’s forgotten corners. They carved ports into lawless islands, wrote codes in blood and salt, buried what couldn’t be stolen, and burned what couldn’t be buried. Much of what we know about them comes from court records, newspaper reports, and the writings of their enemies. Their own words survive only in fragments — scattered testimonies, rare letters, and the occasional mark in a logbook.
Maroon Heart is a digital scrapbooking collection that captures the atmosphere of that untamed world. It includes richly textured mixed media papers that echo the feel of storm-battered decks and torn journals, painterly scenes with glimpses of ships, sails, and shadowy coastlines, a coordinated set of moody solids, and a dramatic selection of collage-style elements: an anchor, coins, skulls, rope, flowers, pirate figures, scraps of ephemera, and worn maritime details.
