Daily Ooos: October 11-12: Rainy Weekend Edition

The Loopy-O
CHEERY O
So-- when I asked for rain, I didn't want it all at once! hahah! We are currently under storm watches and warnings from today until Monday. Inland NJ shouldn't get hit too badly but the shore forecasts look downright nasty. I am glad we made it down last week. If we had plans for this upcoming week, it wouldn't happen.
At least it isn't snow!

I got to drive my new car to work yesterday! And yes! The heated seat was amazing! My old Saturn Vue had heated seats and a remote start, and man oh MAN! I missed that. I freaked my coworker out when he noticed the different car in my usual parking spot. ::D He lived through my rotating car problems over the summer but was relieved when I told him it was all good. The car is still in my dad's name but insurance is in ours-I have to be careful to not to get pulled over until it is switched. No more driving 110 mph for me!
:angrydriver:
JK! I respect the curvy mountain roads with unexpected wildlife running about, especially this time of year.

The field trip was good, I was working with the 4th graders who seemed to have a lot of fun. We ended up rescheduling Sunday's forest bathing and canceled this Fall's HS sessions. We still only had one kid sign up and we would need at least 3 more to make it worthwhile. We scheduled a planning meeting on Tuesday to go over how we want to proceed. IMO, I think we should market more to the Homeschool Pods. We have been getting inquiries for that and it might make more sense to go that route.
I am helping with a Scout Badge this afternoon, this one on Geology. I am honestly really excited since I don't know that much about the rocks and geology of this area. The Weis Badge leader is soooo knowledgeable about this topic, which means I am going to learn a lot from him.

First, I have to go to the FP, drop the food here, grab something to eat, and be at Weis as close to 12 as I can. (all while not driving at top speeds LOL)
I hate getting to the FP before its official start of 10 am but today I have to make an exception.

What exciting plans do you have today?
Make it a great one!

I am sending you my Daily O from retirement! Ooo la la! :spinningchair:
:woohoo: Congrats to you, you deserve a life of leisure from here on out. "Leisure"?" What's that? LOL How about a life of traveling the world with your family? That would work! ♥ :airplane2:
However, I did just remember the word layer as I was sitting here typing this
:rotfl: Ya gotta start somewhere! It will come back, it's all muscle memory once you get going.
I'm glad Syd is home and I know the 4 of you will support each other. I hope that you got through the family viewing ...ok...
:hug3:

Yes, it will be easier on everyone if your dad is comfortable with his decision.....not that he won't have a change of heart from time to time, however! He will just need the loving support of his family during those times! Glad he and Scott have a great relationship!
We are at 50* this morning!
100%!
It was 31* when I left for work and made it up to 60 on my way home. I am so glad I put on an extra layer or I would have been miserable.
He already has plans of adding another room "for storage" LOL!
hahaha! That is too funny! The cabin is going to be bigger than your house by the time he is "done(ish)."
Have a wonderful time at ladies' meeting today.
FWIW-- these are my tricks for cooking eggplant - if I want the slices to stay in place, I will peel the eggplant in stripes- it keeps enough of the skin to hold the slices together but not so the skin is too chewy. Does that make sense? I also salt and blot it to get some of the water out.
But the eggplant and rice sounds like a yummy combo!
Grandkids must take a good 10 years off of the way grandparents feel...maybe more like 25!
My sis-IL and I were just commenting about that!
Love you for all of the support. So very, very glad to be back here.
((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))) Always, my friend ♥
Morning, all. Oh, I slept so well last night!!!
Ahhhhh! That is the best feeling!
I have some of the Cuddle Duds winterwear and they are much thicker than the PJs I just got. Love the winter-underwear. Won't be long before I will pulling out the long-johns
Me too about the winter layers. I haven't seen the PJs so I won't bother with them.

Gonna use Chris favorite emoji here, :brrr: it was 30° when I got up an hour ago. Have no fear, its warming up :floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh: its now 31°
:eek::eek::eek:
I've turned mine on and smashed the lumbar support into my back and then returned it to normal and drove home. It can be amazing on the over done days. And its amazing on freezing cold days too.
Yes!!!! I was stoked when I adjusted the seat yesterday and found the lumbar support button. That combo is going to be a godsend on the days I am working outside and am cold, tired, and stiff. I might not want to leave the car when I pull in the driveway.
Whew, 27 hours w/o power is long but probably not as long as you normally have it out. I am going to catch up on laundry first thing tomorrow just in case we lose power. Fill up water jugs too so we can flush toilets.
and I am weird (which you will soon learn :giggle4:).
Understatement.

the dogs need me. BRB!

Chris with the cold weather coming to you I hope you enjoy it.
You know I will :lovey3:

Spent most of the day prepping the house for my recovery. I made crockpot meat loaf for dinner and froze 1/2 so it will make it easier for hubby since he has to do all the cooking for 3-4 weeks. I talked to granddaughter and she is sick so left work yesterday and took 1/2 day today, lucky her dentist didn't have a super full schedule. I'll check with her tomorrow. Jay is finally feeling better too, he slept 3 days and 3 nights.
Lots of healthy thoughts heading your way.
Yes I am having a hip replacement on Wednesday.
So the surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday... How long do you expect to be in the hospital? I know from my dad's they get you up and walking in no time. Can you take any pain meds or do you have to tough it out?

xoxoxo!

Yeah, really, all we would need is another big room for a bedroom, a smaller one for a kitchen and a potty room! Screen in the porch and that could be our living room with one of those smokeless fire pits! :floorlaugh::giggle4::lol23:NOT!

Thanks for the idea on the egg plant. I will try that the next time!

Good Morning,
Quick in and out today. Gotta get my shower and get ready to leave for our ladies' Bible study.
I was out and about ALL DAY yesterday!

Took the screws we had gotten the day before back to the place where we got the tin for the cabin roof and traded them in for shorter ones.

Drove 45 minutes back across town to my area to go to Kohl's to spend some birthday money. Got a sweater that was $30 for less than $10 after tax with some "free" Kohl's cash and an extra 40% off! Cha-Ching!

Drove another 30 minutes to the nearest Belk to hit their B1G2 and B1G1 sale. Plus had some "free" cash from them for opening an account. Spent almost $200 and saved almost $400! Cha-Ching!

Then I got a text from Mark wanting me to stop at CVS to pick up some more meds for him. The pharmacy was closed for lunch! Drat! They have weird hours! Walked down to Food Lion to get something to take to the ladies' Bible study today and Mark some vanilla ice cream. Walked back to the pharmacy and still had to wait nearly 10 minutes.

As soon as I got home, Mark got home. We had plans to go with our motorcycle friend and pastor to look at some deck chairs made by some Amish kids. Beautiful! We ordered a couple made out of cedar. Won't be ready for a month or so. Only $220 each! A bargain, in deed! The arms have a hole for a cup holder! Those will go on the porch at the cabin.

We visited with the owner of the "shop" for quite a while. He has an amazing story of God's grace in his life. We were there for a couple of hours! I only had a sweater on and was getting pretty chilly by the time we left there!

Finally! Home at 6 and I could sit down and relax! Mark went to the woods for a bit while it was still light out. I think we were in bed by 10!

Mark is in the woods this morning and going to start laying the tin on the porch roof! I can't wait until it is done!
OK, I need to get off of here and get ready to go. Ruth is picking me up in less than an hour!

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Morning, gals! Another good night's sleep but woke up early (6:30 AM). Will be heading back to Kohls this morning. I grabbed the wrong size of PJs... thought I had medium but they were large!!! The PJs have a nice thick ribbed top and heavy fleece pants. Already have a pair in gray and the new ones are pink. Know they will keep me nice and warm. Need to get there early as it is suppose to start raining around noon or sooner.

No balloons launching this morning... the winds are too strong and lots of heavy clouds. And rain off and on today and tomorrow.

@faerywings I saw some Cuddle Duds winter PJs at Kohls that were nice and thick...not thin like the ones at WM. May get a pair of them if they go on sale later on. Yes, I saw that the east coast is under a Nor'easter storm warning. Do be careful if you have to be driving during it. Sounds like the whole east coast will be hit hard with it.

BBL

Whoo-whee,,, I am back and glad I went early.... it started raining (lightly) when I got to the store and got heavier on the drive home. Got the PJs exchanged for the right size... dance3 :yesss:dance3

Going to work on some scrapping this morning. Probably read this afternoon. Oh, I forgot to mention that I got my haircut yesterday. I stopped by the shop but the stylist I like had changed her days and I have things going on Tues/Wed on the next two weeks. So I had the gal who cut DD#1's hair when she was here last month cut my hair. The gal did a wonderful job on it... so now I have 2 stylists I am happy with! :yesss::claphands:

Good evening, beautiful ladies! Rain hasn't started here in NH yet, but it's on it's way. Today was actually nicer than I expected it to be. The cats, except for the old man (too chilly for him) spent a lot of the day on the catio. I have my grocery list done for morning (for some reason, I completely forgot last week and flew by the seat of my pants through the store). So, at least we'll eat this week.

@LSlycord happy retirement! I am sooooo jealous.

Nothing exciting in my corner. I had the week off which was much needed. Sorry to see it has ended. Had hoped to get some fall cleanup done in the garden but I've been having some shoulder issues I have to look into, so I admit... used it as a fabulous excuse to scrap and be lazy.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. @faerywings Yay for heated seats! We're arguing here at my house about turning the heat on in the house... I say no, but the skinny guy who runs cooler than me might win this one.

@faerywings Go glad you are happy with your new car with the warm seats.
No stay in hospital, it's outpatient. They get you up and when you walk the length of the hallway you go home. PT starts the next day three times a week for 2 months. I will try to take some pain meds the first few days but I know how sick I get even with anti nausea meds.

@vickyday sounds like a busy day and how nice to get new special chairs for the cabin. The page you make about the cabin will be extra special with those new chairs. It sounds like you did some thrifty shopping.

@BrightEyes my sister always wore Cuddle Duds in the winters the heavy ones.

I did laundry today . I washed the new hurricane windows today and since the pleated shades got here yesterday we put them up. I only used them when we leave for the summer but they really look great poking out from under the little valance I made. I made sausage we got at Carrolls Sausage from Georgia and added some fresh cabbage...OMG it was soooo good. I signed up for Paramount today, we started watching 1883 cause I know I will be sitting in front of the TV allot.

Hi Everyone!
Today we took out a couple of gangly crepe myrtles. They were too close together and they were growing straight up like a chimney we took them out to the neighboring trees will grow better and not compete for canopy space. About a month ago we had to take down a big maple in the front yard. The interior was rotten, and it was leaning toward the house so proactively we took it down. Today we had a guy come and stump grind it. The stump was trying to sprout and it made me really sad. So now it's gone, the shavings spread around. We'll plant something low growing in the bed that remains - maybe some wildflowers, lantana, or ?

After all that we went to a wildlife fair. I wanted to get information on the window dots. We have too many bird strikes on our kitchen window and the window in the room over the garage. I was able to get the vendor information! Yay. There have been lots of studies about what works and doesn't. We're going with the the 2 x 2 dots. Looking forward to getting this done.

@LSlycord Hope you're enjoying the new found rest allowed by retirement. I'm sorry you're going through such a tough time, but thankful that have the extra time for family togetherness right now.

@faerywings we know all too well the benefits on heated seats. Someone in this house (ahem!) uses them even in the heat of summer.

The weather here is starting to change. It was windy and colder than it's been today, low was in the 50's, high was mid 60's. In California that would have put us in parkas! Now that we're acclimated here, it's refreshingly comfortable.

Hope you all have a good rest of your day.

Good news for inland NJ, we should not be getting hit by the storm too badly. Rain and wind, but not as severe as in the shore areas. They have a lot of coastal flood warnings.

As of right now, it looks like we could have held the Forest Bathing this morning. But it rained steadily yesterday afternoon so the wet leaves on the rocky trail aren't the best combo. For me, if no one else. LOL There were two Pumpkin Chunkin' Sessions in the afternoon and some of the people coming to use the bathrooms were looking pretty ragged and wet. The Scout Badge program only needed to be outside for 45 minutes. We were in the woods and the trees blocked the worst of the rain. I learned a lot of rocks and minerals and re-learned that 7th-grade boys can be 100% obnoxious. Hoo boy, obnoxious. SMH!

It will be nice not having to go anywhere today but I have a *ton* of things to do around the house. Laundry, cleaning the kitchen and my office. Food list and meals for the week. Prepping for the field trip Thursday and Friday. And all of my Cheery-O stuff I am so darn far behind on. I keep thinking that maybe I should take a break from here, with my mojo being gone and feeling like I am not as active here as I should be. :(
The best part of the day is trying to accomplish all of that while ignoring the new floater in my eye!/s It's more of a blob than a thread and now that I saw it, I can't unsee it. No eye pain, vision changes- none of that- but I'll get to the eye doctor if that happens.

Have a terrific day!

Good morning ladies! I am tired but of course, couldn't sleep in. Did make it until 6 am so I was happy about that....and I didn't wake up once in the night...my head hit the pillow and that was it. It helped because we only had one dog...Sydney had Hayden...so that meant I had covers and could turn over if I wanted to. We have a king size bed but with Andie at 106 pounds and Hayden at 60 pounds, they take up so much space that it is a crowded sleeping environment. And they both like to be close...sometimes I will wake up with Andie's head on my shoulder. But what can you do? If you are a dog lover, you are a dog lover.

Made it through the visitation and the funeral. There were 200 people at the funeral and I don't know how many were there for the visitation. There was a stream of people going through the line for 2 solid hours. My brother is not that social...but he was yesterday. He stepped up and took the place of Angie. Lots of interesting times ahead.

And all of my Cheery-O stuff I am so darn far behind on. I keep thinking that maybe I should take a break from here, with my mojo being gone and feeling like I am not as active here as I should be. :(
No breaks for you @faerywings. The mojo will come back! You are the O!! I'm sure that everyone else is more than willing to pick up a little slack! And who would start the Daily-O's.

No my love, I just got back. You can't take a break now. If you do nothing other than reach out to each of us personally here, you are doing more than you could possibly know. Now go spend your day on all of the daily tasks of your family and home. You have already made a difference here.

You will soak up today's geological info like a sponge!
I scribbled so many notes! Next step- rewrite them and research the parts I don't know anything about.

Yeah, really, all we would need is another big room for a bedroom, a smaller one for a kitchen and a potty room! Screen in the porch and that could be our living room with one of those smokeless fire pits! :floorlaugh::giggle4::lol23:NOT!
Bwuahahaha!!
Well, if you ever get in a fight, that could be Mark's proverbial doghouse :p
Man, you were the shopping queen on Friday! :goldstars:
How was your ladies' meeting? Hope you have downtime set aside for today!

They sound soooo cozy! I'll keep my eyes open for the Cuddle Dud PJs too!
so now I have 2 stylists I am happy with! :yesss::claphands:
That's always a good deal! Backup!

I had the week off which was much needed. Sorry to see it has ended. Had hoped to get some fall cleanup done in the garden but I've been having some shoulder issues I have to look into, so I admit... used it as a fabulous excuse to scrap and be lazy.
You are probably a little ahead of us with leaves begin down but I wanted to take advantage of the nicer weather earlier this week too. For me, it was my wrist (I tripped over a tree branch leading a relay race with the kids, landed right on my wrist and I think I strained/sprained it. ) It sucks getting older and the aches and pains keeping us from doing what we want. Pfft!
I was shocked that my DH put the heat on the other day. I am always freezing and he likes the windows open and the ceiling fans on. The word is crazy these days LOL

I feel that. We had to have two hickories taken down when we put the addition on this house. I apologized to each of them and practically cried when they went.
What brand of window stickers did you get? I bought a pack of the ones that Cornell (IIRC) recommended and then bought a cheap pack to fill in some of the spaces. We were getting a few strikes before that, mostly when the finches would get all mouthy with each other. *G*
I haven't noticed any since, so *fingers crossed they are working*
Have fun planning the new garden bed.

My brother is not that social...but he was yesterday. He stepped up and took the place of Angie.
This broke my heart. Please let him and the kids know that the O-Fam is with them.
(assuming he knows about us. I mean -- he *has* to know about us?)
At any rate, send our love to your family.
And they both like to be close...sometimes I will wake up with Andie's head on my shoulder. But what can you do? If you are a dog lover, you are a dog lover.
Uh huh, BTDT. Even with the brick of the Pittie mix on my feet and the body-heat furnace weirdo on my head in the middle of the summer. :p
No my love, I just got back. You can't take a break now. If you do nothing other than reach out to each of us personally here, you are doing more than you could possibly know. Now go spend your day on all of the daily tasks of your family and home. You have already made a difference here.
Now you are making me all teary.
That's why I think about taking a break (never leaving, I don't think that would even be possible for me HA!!) but never go through with it. ♥♥♥

Time to get caught up on some personals here.

@faerywings I so love this new job you have...I know that it isn't really new for you but I think of it as new. And glad that you are going to have those heated seats...I loved them, even in Florida, because they made my back feel so good. It will be a game changer this winter.

@vickyday I agree, the CVS pharmacy does have the strangest hours. As much money as CVS makes, they really should be able to cover the lunch hour. There are few places that focus on customer convenience any more. And I am a grumpy old lady. I think this is the kind of thing that caused me to be a grumpy "young" lady too. So guess it probably isn't a result of my age...just my high expectations of the world.

@BrightEyes I am glad that you got home before the downpour and weren't out shopping in it. I think this week will be my week to look for pajamas. Because I am retired, I think I will go to Kohls and not use Amazon because I have time!

@Nonni F oh how I always hated that last day of time off of work. But yay for a week when you didn't have to do much but scrap and be lazy. It's too bad that we have to not feel well to allow ourselves that kind of time, but I totally get it. Hope this week at work is an easy one.

@BoatLady glad that you are healthy for the surgery. It is amazing what they do with hip and knee surgeries these days. But that recovery period is going to take a long time. I loved 1883. I really like historical pieces from about the mid-1800's and beyond so that was a really good one.

@mimes1 your weather sounds like ours...just a little bit chillier. Yesterday was one of those perfectly beautiful days at the graveside service...blue skies, crisp weather, sunshine. Exactly perfect for mid-October! Your place sounds lovely. A bed filled with lantanas or wildflowers is such a happy thought.

I am sitting at my desk, and in front of me, is a little note holder that says "In all things Give thanks". My sister-in-law gave it to me for my birthday last year. And so, that's what I'm going to do today. Give thanks for ALL the things. Especially for all of you!

Morning, all. Wow.. what a change this morning... It is so cloudy and foggy that I can't see the mountain. Yes... this is more like fall going into winter weather. Glad I don't have to go anywhere. Hate driving in misty-fog, The street and sidewalks are wet so it must have rained earlier.

Need to get my shower :showering2: then get the laundry started :laundry:. It is going to be raining off and on this week so I plan on staying home. Just remembered that I need to reset the sprinkler/drip system back to fall - twice a week setting. Will be glad when the furnace tune-up guys get here on Tuesday. Temps are getting colder at night already.

I am re-reading "The Inheritance" - Book 1 of The Lost Brides by Nora Roberts. Want to get "The Mirror" - Book 2 from the library this week, I have Book 3 on reserve and it should be arriving some time soon. I had forgotten parts of the story so glad to refresh my memory... before I read Book 3.

I scribbled so many notes! Next step- rewrite them and research the parts I don't know anything about.

This broke my heart. Please let him and the kids know that the O-Fam is with them.
(assuming he knows about us. I mean -- he *has* to know about us?)
At any rate, send our love to your family.

Uh huh, BTDT. Even with the brick of the Pittie mix on my feet and the body-heat furnace weirdo on my head in the middle of the summer. :p

Now you are making me all teary.
That's why I think about taking a break (never leaving, I don't think that would even be possible for me HA!!) but never go through with it. ♥♥♥
HA! The cabin being Mark's "doghouse" would not be a punishment! ;)
Yes, this afternoon is going to be dedicated to scrapping! We had a great meeting yesterday! So spiritually uplifting! I love the Psalms! :heartpumplove: That's one of the reasons I chose the study for my widows, too!

I totally agree! Mark and I said the same thing! CVS should be covering lunch hour also! There is no good reason they should shut down the pharmacy AT ALL!!!

Good afternoon!
Back from church, have eaten lunch (chili I made was DELISH!) and plan to do nothing but some scrapping the rest of the day!
I took some of the chili to the lady we pick up on Sunday and Wednesday and took some to a man at the church who is a divorcee. He is our newest member. In his 60's. He and his ex still get along, so that is good. She even came to his baptismal service. That is always a good thing for the kids that are involved.....and grandkids! She has cancer, so sometimes he has all of the kids. I'm sure he knows how to cook, but he was on my mind this morning, so I texted him to see if he would like some chili and garlic bread for lunch. He said, "Yes ma'am!"

I spoke to the pastor about the possibility of renting a van on the days I take our widows and Ilene and her friend from church, Penny, to the widows' meetings each month. He said we could do that! One of our sister churches is getting ready to replace some of their passenger vans with new vans, so the pastor told that pastor that we would be interested in getting one from them! No CDL license required! We have 5 widows + me that are at our church plus Ilene and her friend, so that is 8 people that could possibly go that definitely won't fit in my Equinox that holds 4 comfortably and 5 tightly! So getting one of those vans would be great!

OK, that's it for me. Mark is on the couch watching football! I'm glad he is resting today! Here's a few pictures from the cabin.....
Mark finished the roof to the porch yesterday and we spent some time down there last night listening to our devotion and music porch side!

Thanks, Tracy! Yeah! I was chilly! I had my afghan that I knitted down there wrapped around my legs. The wind was blowing from my left, so I stayed chilly the whole time we were down there.
