My husband's 40th birthday celebration...or so he thought!
Journaling reads: How do you surprise someone who knows they
are turning 40? It's especially difficult when
they also know your family has a history of
throwing surprise parties. For Mike's 40th, his
sister, Becky, and I planned a surprise much like
the one we threw for his 30th birthday. Except
we let him think that his party was the night before,
when we all went out to Ann & Tony's restaurant,
and then came back to our house for cake and ice
cream. The next day was just supposed to be a
cookout at Bill's with Aunt Sandy, Uncle Butch,
cousins Jeff and Tena and their kids. Instead, we
invited all of Mike's close friends, and his college
roommate, Steve, and his family came up from
Cincinnati. Although he wasn't totally shocked, I
think we managed to mislead him pretty well.
