When my 3rd child was just 11 months old, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and had to undergo 9 months of chemotherapy. I was told that the chemo would leave me sterile, which broke my heart. I certainly didn't plan on having any more children, since I already had three, but the fact that the choice would be taken from me was difficult to bear. I guess sometimes God has other plans... just 4 months after my last chemo treatment I found myself pregnant, despite using birth control faithfully. Although I was called selfish for even thinking of bringing another child into this world when I might not survive to see him grow up, finding out that my cancer-stricken body was still capable of growing a new life was the single most life-affirming moment I'd ever had.
My son is 15 now -- and I'm still here!
